Why travel to Ecuador?

Ecuador is a megadiverse country. Although it only covers 0.17% of the earth's area, Ecuador possesses 11% of all the terrestrial vertebrates in the world, 16,087 vascular plant species, and about 600 species of marine fish.
In terms of species diversity per area, Ecuador is one of the 17 most diverse countries on the planet and is number one in vertebrate biodiversity.

Our diverse people and cultures

The best expression of the diversity in our country are the 27 different cultures, among them Andean, Amazonian, and coastal indigenous groups and Ecuadorians of African descent. Our nation's extraordinary cultural ancestry has been traced back to 8500 BC, through the Spanish conquest, the colonial period that began in the mid 16th century and ended with our independence at the end of the 18th century. This great mixture speaks of a cultural patrimony that is unique to the Americas

Ecuadorian geography

This little country is comprised of four distinct geographic regions that make it a truly exciting destination for ecotourism: The incredible and unique Galapagos Islands, beautiful sandy beaches amidst rocky shoals in a tropical dry forest habitat, major ranges of snow-capped volcanos reaching more than 6000 meters (20,000 ft) elevation, and the exuberant rainforests and meandering rivers of the Amazon basin.
